Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Bills, 49ers and Bears are among the teams who have called the Bucs about disgruntled defensive tackle Vita Vea.
Vea requested a trade ahead of training camp after spending the offseason seeking a new contract.
I’m calling BS here.
I think that this rumor is simply a result of the fact that people know that the Bears need a defensive tackle. However, I don’t think they’re thinking this through.
I’m sure that defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is looking for defensive tackles. But it became evident in the off-season that he wants tackles that can penetrate. That’s not really what Vea does. He’s a large man that acts as a plug in the middle of the defense. Think former Bear Andrew Billings, now with the Cardinals.
Don’t get me wrong. Vea is a wonderful player. But I don’t believe that he fits the Bears’ defensive scheme and I’ll believe that the Bears want him when I see them trade for him.
