Josh Alper at profootballtalk.com passes along the report that the fight on Friday between Maxx Crosby and Kirk Cousins resulted in a day off for both players on Friday.
“We have very clear expectations on how we want to practice and how we want to go about our business, and we violated that yesterday,” [head coach Klint] Kubiak said, via Ryan McFadden of ESPN.com.
With Cousins out of practice, first overall pick Fernando Mendoza got an extended run with the first team offense during team drills.
I’m a bit surprised that anything came of this. The reaction on Friday after practice was simply a “that’s training camp” shrug from Kubiak. Apparently on reflection Kubiak decided it was a bit more than that.
You wonder if this wasn’t simply a way to give both men a day off and an excuse to get Mendoza extra snaps. He’ll certainly be starting sooner rather than later and will need to be well prepared just to run the offense in the preseason games.
Still, Kubiak could have done all of that without calling attention to the incident. You wonder if both players didn’t cross the line in what may have been an extraordinary affair. I look forward to seeing if there are more comments on the incident from the players involved.
